    Please join the Private Directors Association in the Detroit, MI, suburb, Southfield, on October 18th for a panelist discussion on Board Formation, Practices, and Board Member Selection in Private Equity. At this program, the panelists will expose small and mid-size business owners, CEOs and board directors to a discussion of governance challenges in the world of private equity, including the identification and selection of qualified individuals to serve as board and advisory board directors. The panelists will discuss the kinds of board level issues that are associated with serving as a director in private equity, and highlight those that are most challenging.

    Ian is Plymouth’s founding partner and has been active in venture capital investing since 1969. He brings extensive financial, operational and technological expertise to Plymouth Growth Partners in his current role as Senior Advisor.

    Ian formed the first institutional VC in Michigan and has led or co-led 14 funds. He has been involved in building over 350 companies, executing over 40 IPOs, and serving on the Board of more than 20 businesses. Successful exits include numerous strategic sales, such as Ventana Medical Systems, Lifescan, Birtcher, Stratacom, and Neogen.

    Ian received an MBA from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney. He is an Australian Chartered Accountant.

He has extensive experience in executing middle-market acquisitions, recapitalizations, restructurings, growth financings, and divestitures, closing over 200 transactions valued at over $2.0 billion. Brian holds a B.S. in Accounting from Purdue University, an M.B.A. from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and is a CPA.

    Mr. Hamlin is president and one of the founders of The Reserve Group, a management company that specializes in the acquisition, revitalization and expansion of manufacturing companies.  The portfolio of companies included in The Reserve Group today are twelve in number. 

    Prior to forming The Reserve Group in 1995, Mr. Hamlin had been a vice president of The Brenlin Group and president of R. M. Hamlin, Co., a developer and general contractor.

    Mr. Hamlin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Colgate University and a Master’s degree from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College.  He and his wife Elizabeth have 2 children.
